Downstairs, the stairway foyer leads to a large activities “day” room. This room occupies the entire south of the house and opens onto the south terrace with another set of Nanawall doors. On the western wall of the activities room is a gas fired fireplace with an elegant walnut and slate mantel piece. The room then sweeps around to the east. With outside access, the large mechanical room contains a heat recovery ventilation (HRV) system, hot water system for the radiant heat, electrical panels, plumbing water shutoffs, hot water tank, and the brains of the home automation system. The HRV helps retain the interior temperature of the home while constantly bringing fresh air into the home; stale air is not recirculated.
